2D D-Cinema

The following will be included with all 2D D-Cinema programs:

Technical Specifications

ELEMENTAL is 1.85:1 Flat.

The whole image is important to the story, so be sure you’re showing the entire 1.85 image, side-to-side and top-to-bottom, and that focus is sharp across the entire picture. Your theater sound system should be tuned to 85dB (C-weighted) on all screen channels using pink noise. The correct fader setting on Dolby systems is 7.

Disney·Pixar continues the use of Dolby 5.1, 7.1 & Dolby Atmos.

2D D-Cinema Specifications

The CARL’S DATE short and ELEMENTAL feature will be supplied together in a single D-Cinema Package. The trailer will be a separate D-Cinema Package.

Be sure you have enough room on your server before ingesting.

Lamp Levels
DCinema Light

Projection lamp levels that are set too low have a disastrous effect on the picture. When projected at the SMPTE standard of 14fL full white, the image is sharp and colorful. At lower levels, the colors become muddy and gray. The picture has less snap to it and feels lifeless. Important details in the darker areas will disappear if the light levels are too low.

Select the projector color and sizing format using the DC4K_VirtualWhite_XYZ_185 PCF file for 4K projectors and the VirtualWhite_XYZ_185 PCF file for 2K projectors. Please ensure that this PCF file has been loaded and tested on your Digital Cinema Projector.

If you are running from a doremi server, doremi suggests running the Disk Cleanup routine to free up available space:

  1. Choose Menu → Doremi Laboratories, Inc. → Diagnostic Tools
  2. Click the Storage Tab at the top of the Diagnostic Tools window
  3. Click the Disk Cleanup button
  4. Click the box beside all three options to choose them
  5. Click the OK button to cleanup the disk
  6. Click the X button in the top right corner to close the Diagnostics Tools application.

When you open up the Ingest application (or when you plug in the drive and the Ingest application opens) confirm that you have enough free space to ingest the whole package. If not, go into Cinelister to delete content and then repeat the Cleanup routine if necessary.

KDMs are valid Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 12:01 AM. New KDMs will be delivered weekly thereafter.

The most frequent reason for a missed show is failure to load the renewal KDM when it arrives. Load your renewal KDM immediately upon receipt. Do not wait until Friday morning just before showtime.

Load your content and KDM (KDMs are server specific) for ELEMENTAL on all the servers in your theater. Then you’ll have the flexibility to move the audience to another digital auditorium, if needed.

The format for this release is FLAT (3996x2160). The supplied hard drive includes a special Framing Chart. You will find it under the file name: DisneyDigital_DLX-51_2D-FramingChart_C-185_EN-XX_INT_51-HI-VI_2K_DI_20211215_DLX_SMPTE_OV

The color bar is provided to ensure you are in the proper color space. If the color hues do not match closely, then you are not in the right color space. Please contact your system integrator to correct the issue.
